The Vins del Tros project was created in 2009 by winemakers Joan Ramon Bada and Josep Arrufat. Both were born in Vilalba dels Ars , friends from childhood were passionate about vineyards and winemaking. The task, which was set from the very beginning, was to produce wines with a pronounced character Terra Alta, using the potential offered by the old vineyards of Garnacha Blanca and Garnacha Tinta, the two main traditional varieties of this region. At the end of 2012, another winemaker of Spain’s wine culture, Xavier Orobitg, joined the team, seeking to share his vast professional experience in order to develop this exciting project. Vins del Tros is one of three wineries in Terra Alta, which took on the revival of the autochthonous variety Morenillo, which has become a symbol of quality and exclusivity.
Vins del Tros winery is located in one of the most iconic country houses in Vilalba dels Arc – casa “Granyena”. The winery is located right in the center of the historic village and is surrounded by narrow streets and various buildings with stone walls that complement the beauty of the landscape. This house has been associated with the art of winemaking since its construction, which can be seen in many details. The fact that the whole house is completely surrounded by thick stone walls allows the internal temperature to be almost the same throughout the year, no matter what the outdoor temperature may be. As for the process of winemaking and wine aging, Vins del Tros has French oak barrels with a capacity of 225, 500 and 4000 liters, as well as steel tanks from 1000 to 5000 liters. The winery practices aging of red and white wines in large clay amphora with a capacity of 150 to 800 liters.
